Our Story
Since 1883, the Traralgon Football Netball Club has been part of the fabric of Gippsland sport.
What began with a victory over Warragul in our first recorded match has grown into one of the region's most successful and respected football and netball clubs. Across more than 140 years, generations of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters have helped build a club known for its competitiveness, professionalism and strong sense of community.
Our journey has included periods of growth, challenge and evolution. After a brief recess in 1894, the club returned in 1895 and continued to establish itself as a force in Gippsland football. We have competed across several leagues throughout our history, including more than four decades in the Latrobe Valley Football League before joining the Gippsland League in 2005.
The club's ambition has never been limited by comfort. Following a dominant period in the early 1990s, Traralgon accepted the challenge of competing in the VFL in 1996 and 1997. While success on the field was hard-earned, the experience reflected a club willing to test itself against stronger competition and continue raising the bar.
That mindset has defined many of our greatest achievements. Traralgon has won 31 Senior Football Premierships, with the 1960s and 1990s standing among the most successful eras in club history. More recently, the club secured the 2024 Gippsland League Senior Football Premiership, adding another chapter to a proud tradition of success.
Our netball program has also played a significant role in the club's story. Across all grades, generations of players have represented the maroon and white with distinction, with A Grade's most recent premiership coming in 2017.
In 2015, the club expanded its football program with the introduction of women's football, creating new opportunities for female athletes to compete and thrive. The establishment of our Youth Girls program in 2017 further strengthened that pathway, with the team's 2019 premiership highlighting the growth and success of female football at Traralgon.
Today, the Traralgon Football Netball Club is more than its history. We are a club built on high standards, strong culture and a commitment to continual improvement. From our youngest junior players to our senior programs, we are focused on creating an environment where people can develop, compete and belong.
While we are proud of what has been achieved over the past 140 years, our focus remains firmly on what comes next.
