Round #4 match report

Round #4 match report

Last week we visited Magpie Territory with our netballers sharing the spoils 3 wins each; whilst our footballers took the honours 3-1, with unfortunately our Seniors unable to get that elusive first victory of the season.  Intermittent showers throughout the day made conditions tough at times.

On the courts, our junior girls came up against some well drilled Sale teams with our “mini maroon” u/13’s having their first loss 28-51. The u/15’s had a 14-59 defeat, whilst the u/17’s played their best game of the season but went down 21-33.  The senior teams reversed the trend winning all 3 with C grade (37-22), B grade (45-41) taking the points; as well as our A grade ladies (43-18) who remain undefeated.  Special congratulations to Bree Guttridge on her 100th Senior game for the club.  Awards to Emily Scholtes, Addison Howe, Ava Melbourne (u/13’s); Allyssa Tangi, Montana Styles, Molly Van Berkel (u/15’s); Milan Maaka, Lauryn King-Church, Chelsea Lawn (u/17’s); Amy Husson, Bridget Kase, Koren Ponton (C grade); Kasey Guttridge, Nicole Jennings, Rebecca Duddington (B grade) and Stacey O’Brien, Maddi Stockdale, Ramayer Gourley in A Grade.

It was a tough contest early for our u/16 footballers with both sides struggling to keep their feet.  Again, pressure around the contest and in defence combined with strong running and marking, giving us the ascendency in the second half.  Best players were Gabe Wood, Ryan Wilson, Hugh Dunbar, Tom Hamilton, Nick Fox and Kyle Whateley.

With a number of players unavailable; 7 of our u/16 squad stepped up to help out the Thirds.  After an even first quarter, Sale jumped out to a 15 point lead at the main break, keeping us goalless.  From then on the boys upped their intensity in the second half to run out winners by 22 points; to the delight of their coach with their performance under the circumstances. Best player awards went to Cohen Ruyters, Peter Strong, Luis D’Angelo, Liam Deering, Liam Willaton and Caleb Frith.

A rather messy first half by both teams in the Reserves, with us taking a 2 point lead into half time.  From then on the game seemed to gradually open up before we came home with a 6 goal final term (Van Iwaarden 4 of his 5 for the day) to remain undefeated.  Better players were Luke Johnson, Jake Bishop, Ben Johnson, Josh Twite, Wilson Gaudion and Zac Gray.

With only half of our 2018 Senior Finals Team still at the Club; Tim and the Coaching Staff have been working diligently to get the group to gel, as the ability is certainly there.  This game will go in the “review and forget file” as after an even first quarter, Sale blew the game apart in the second taking a 6 goal lead into half time.  Hard working, running and skills in the slippery conditions showed our guys the level required to get to.  The final margin may not have flattered us, but they had a real crack at it in the last half.  Best players named as Michael Jacobsen, Mark Collison, Conor Ambler, Jackson Hall, Ewan Williams and Will Broadbent.

Netball – 200 A Grade Games
TFNC would like to acknowledge and congratulate Caitlan Ponton on this wonderful achievement. Caitlan has been an outstanding contributor to not only our Club, but to Netball in general.  It is fitting that her achievement coincides with our “Ladies Day” on the Deck and we hope that as many people as possible head to the Social Club at the end of the day to celebrate her achievement.

Ladies Day (Today)
