Finals week #1 match report

Finals week #1 match report

With the preliminaries over, it was the start of the business end of the season as 4 of our teams headed into week 1 of the finals series last weekend; with our 3 other finalist teams putting their feet up for a rest.

On the Saturday in perfect conditions at Morwell our U/13’s got the day rolling against Maffra.  It was “nip and tuck” all game, with the scores tied at full time.  In extra time our girls got over the line 44-42 in a great tussle.  Emily Scholtes was named Best on Court.

In A Grade, we took on reigning Premiers Moe and the girls were certainly up for the challenge in a very polished display.  Leading at the first break, they never allowed the Lions into the game eventually running out comfortable victors 68-50.  Amongst many great performers, Saskia Eenjes was named Best on Court.

Over on the oval “Cammo’s” Reserves took on the “Gatha” with the ground in outstanding condition.  The Parrots came out firing in the first term with 5 goals to our 3 before we got the game on level terms at the main break.  The third saw us gain a small buffer keeping them goalless while kicking 2 ourselves, with the final quarter being a “draw” on the scoreboard to run out winners by 11 points in a good quality game.   Best players were our 20 and younger players, most who debuted in the Seniors this season in Josh Twite, Wilson Gaudion, Luke Johnson, Justin Barnes, Tom McMahon and Jacob Van Iwaarden.

Last Sunday saw our U/15 netballers take on Leongatha in the knockout elimination final.  The girls had a good start, but slipped in the 3rd quarter to be down by 10 at the last break.  They fought the game right out in an endeavour to bridge the gap, but unfortunately went down 28-31.  Best on Court was Montanna Styles.  Congratulations to Coach, Chelsea Livingstone and all the players on their efforts and hard work over the season.  A fine effort.

Grand Final – Youth Girls

Our girls take on last year’s premiers Sale City at Stratford on Sunday (8th) starting at 1.00.  Good Luck to Brett and the girls and if you are free, take the chance to head up the highway to watch them go for “the flag”.

This week our remaining 6 final teams head up to Maffra hoping to take the short-cut to the “Big Dance” with victories, but knowing they will face quality opposition in all games.  We wish all our Coaching staff and players Good Luck.  Play hard, fair and above all enjoy the day, as indeed we wish all Clubs the same.
